The Majic concert series presents the Sheila Landis Trio on Friday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Commerce Ave. in Grand Rapids.
Detroit's own jazz vocalist Sheila Landis will perform her original compositions and contemporary selections with her jazz trio featuring guitarist Rick Matle and world beat percussionist, Dennis Sheridan.
Landis uses her extraordinarily flexible voice and an uncanny ability to use it to scat, sing ballads, and create Latin rhythms. She sings jazz, rock, bebop, and Latin with absolute equanimity. Her multifaceted musical elasticity allows her to take part in any jazz scenario with ease and excellence. Her work continues to exude vitality, excitement, diversity, and originality.
As a vocalist since 1973, her current schedule has her performing at Michigan's most prestigious festivals, concert venues, and nightclubs. She draws her inspiration from classic jazz vocalists Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and Billie Holiday as well as modern artists such as Joni Mitchell, The Beatles, and Antonio Carlos Jobim.
Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. For more information, please head over to www.grmajic.org or www.wideopenwest.com/~slandis.
