Afro-Zep to grace West Michigan dance floors again

By: Brittney Schering

Afro-Zep is heading back to West Michigan for another performance at Bell's Eccentric Cafe. After its first-ever Michigan show there last spring led to a packed dance floor, they have to return. The crowd was the biggest that the club staff has yet to see on a Thursday night.

Chicago's top rock, jazz, and world musicians have collided for a truly unique hybrid known as Afro-Zep. The collective of Chicago musicians will play a set of all Led Zeppelin tunes re-done in the intertwined style of Afrobeat and Afropop.

With vocalist Wilson on guitar, Marshall Greenhouse on drums, and lead-vocalist Ryan Behling on bass, Afro-Zep was recently selected for the Chicago Reader's 'Best of Chicago 2010' list. This cover band has gained recognition from some of the most well-respected music publications.

It will be at Bell's Eccentric Cafe on Friday, Oct. 22 and Founders Brewery on Saturday, Oct. 23. Admission is only $5 at Bell's, and again at Founders. Both shows are scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. Dave Hamilton of 56 Hope Road will also be performing at both shows. Come on out for a unique and talented twist on old-time favorites.
