Despite the lip-smacking virtues of specialty burgers like Traverse city cherry, Alaskan salmon, and Tijuana guacamole, it is the Cottage burger, nestled in a rye bun and dripping with American and Swiss cheese, chopped olives, lettuce, tomato, and handcrafted smoky mayonnaise, that USA Today officially named, "the best burger in Michigan."
The Cottage Bar and Restaurant, home of the Cottage burger, is the oldest operating bar and restaurant in Downtown Grand Rapids. It is known for the casual charm and down-to-earth atmosphere and famous for having the city's best burgers.
The Cottage burger was recommended by Jaye Beeler, a food writer with Arbutuspress.com. Hours that you can come in and try one for yourself are Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. - 1 a.m. and Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. - 2 a.m.
