Something new is about to hit Kalamazoo. On Tuesday, Aug. 17 at 9 p.m. the classical guitar band Eastern Blok will perform at The Strutt. The band, based out of Chicago, will bring the beautiful music of the Balkans to the Kalamazoo audience.The band is fronted by Goran Ivanovic, a Serbian classical guitar virtuoso, and includes saxophonist Doug Rosenberg, bassist Matt Ulrey and percussionist Michael Caskey. The quartet combine traditional Balkan folk music with Latin, flamenco and klezmer elements in addition to European classical influences and American jazz.
